COLUMBUS, Miss. (WTVA) -- A man faces numerous charges following a high speed chase in Lowndes County Monday afternoon.
A Mississippi Highway Patrol spokesperson says a trooper attempted to stop a car driven by Devegas Liddell, 29, of Steens for a seatbelt violation at the intersection of Highway 50 and Highway 82 around 4 p.m.
Liddell ran from authorities before jumping out of the vehicle at Bell Avenue and 18th Street in Columbus.
Authorities say he ran into a home and was apprehended after the homeowner gave authorities permission to search the residents.
A state trooper involved in a foot pursuit suffered minor injuries.
Liddell is charged with felony fleeing, dui, possession of a controlled substance, and numerous misdemeanor charges.
The MHP spokesperson says Liddell also had outstanding warrants on drug-related charges.
He is currently being held in the Lowndes County Adult Detention Center.
The Lowndes County Sheriff's Office and the Columbus Police Department assisted in the pursuit and arrest.
