COLUMBUS, Miss. (WTVA) -- The Lowndes County Sheriff's Department says a man is in custody facing several charges after a chase.
Investigators say deputies were on patrol when they spotted Larry Dornell Billups, Jr., who was being sought by the Mississippi Department of Corrections.
Authorities say when Billups saw deputies, he ran inside a residence.
Billups was found inside the residence and arrested.
When deputies went to check out the vehicle where Billups had been standing, they say they smelled a strong aroma of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle.
The Lowndes County Narcotics Unit was called and took a container out of the vehicle containing suspected marijuana, cocaine and drug paraphernalia.
While the Narcotics Unit was testing the drugs, deputies say Billups fled the scene in handcuffs.
Officers gave chase and apprehended Billups. He was escorted back to the scene.
Billups is charged with possession of cocaine, misdemeanor possession of marijuana and felony escape.
