LOWNDES COUNTY, Miss. (WTVA) - The Golden Triangle Regional Airport is seeing a recent rise in the number of passengers boarding commercial flights.
It's a 20 percent increase from last year.
The airport's executive director says he sees two reasons for the boost; the international destinations that are accessible out of Atlanta, and new industrial businesses in our area.
"The main thing with all these new businesses is most are international business and they can connect on a 36 minute flight from here to Atlanta," adds Mike Hainsey, executive director of the Golden Triangle Regional Airport. "Then [they can] connect anywhere in the world."
The Delta Connection flies three non stops to Atlanta aboard a CRJ 200, and the airport is in preliminary talks with the airline to add a fourth.
