(WTVA) — Unofficial results show Angela Lairy has won the special election for District 16 in the Mississippi Senate.
With 100 percent of the precincts reporting, Lairy has 4,143 votes, or 71 percent, while Kenny Fowler has 1,705 votes, or 29 percent.
Lairy will serve the remainder of the term of her late father, Sen. Bennie Turner, who died in December.
The district covers all or parts of Clay, Lowndes, Oktibbeha and Noxubee counties.
