COLUMBUS, Miss. (WTVA) -- Authorities hit the streets of Lowndes County Thursday morning looking for thirteen people wanted on federal drug charges.
Sheriff Mike Arledge tells WTVA.com the roundup is the result of a nearly year-long investigation into the sale of narcotics in the county.
He says most of those arrested today will face federal charges related mostly to the sale of cocaine.
Arledge says DEA, ATF, U. S. Marshals, the Mississippi Highway Patrol, Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics, and Lowndes County deputies took part in the operation.
He says most of the arrests took place in Lowndes County, but arrests related to the case were also made in Tate County and Tuscaloosa, Alabama.
Those arrested were taken to U. S. District Court in Aberdeen for an initial appearance before a federal magistrate.
