COLUMBUS, Miss. (WTVA) -- Lowndes County authorities recently made several drug arrests involving cocaine.

On Thursday, deputies arrested Columbus residents Bert Sparks, 23, and Clinton Weaver, 23, for possession of cocaine as the result of a traffic stop near the intersection of 7th Avenue North and Military Road.

Authorities say Sparks received additional charges of driving with a suspended driver's license and running a stop sign.

Weaver was also charged with resisting arrest and carrying a concealed weapon.

Both are awaiting bond at the Lowndes County Adult Detention Center.

On Friday, deputies conducted a traffic stop on Highway 182 where 30-year-old Jalain Cunningham of Columbus was arrested for possession of cocaine, possession of spice and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Cunningham is awaiting bond at the Lowndes County Adult Detention Center.

Saturday, deputies investigated a stopped vehicle blocking traffic at the intersection of Main Street and 23 Street.

The driver, Carlos Douglas, was found asleep in the car, woke up and left the scene at a high rate of speed.

A brief vehicle pursuit and the discovery of cocaine led to the arrest of Douglas, 37, of Columbus who was charged with possession of cocaine and other misdemeanor violations.

He is awaiting bond at the Lowndes County Adult Detention Center.
