OXFORD, Miss. (WTVA) — A Lowndes County man has filed a federal appeal of his sentence to a drug charge.
Shawn Lamont Doss, 35, is serving an enhanced sentence of 50 years in prison after pleading guilty to possession of more than five kilograms of marijuana.
In his appeal, Doss say his 5th and 14th Amendment rights were violated during the sentencing portion of his case.
He pleaded guilty to the charge and agreed to a 20 year sentence with prosecutors.
Doss didn't show up for the sentencing hearing and the trial judge handed down the tougher prison sentence.
The Mississippi Court of Appeals upheld his conviction in April and the Mississippi Supreme Court refused to review the case last month.
