COLUMBUS, Miss. (WTVA) -- A man from Columbus is now behind bars facing drug and weapons charges.
Investigators with the Lowndes County Sheriff's Office say Deairis Shanklin, 24, is charged with possession of cocaine and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
Authorities say during a check by the Lowndes County Narcotics Unit, agents found crack cocaine on Shanklin. Agents also seized a pistol and an undetermined amount of money.
At the time of his arrest, Shanklin was on probation with the Mississippi Department of Corrections. Authorities say he has two prior felony convictions.
