JACKSON, Miss. (WTVA) -- The Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality is welcoming new members to its eHance program.

The department says the companies are committed to setting environmental goals beyond their legal requirements.

MDEQ officials say the nine new members and three renewing members join a group of companies and government agencies doing good work and acheiving the standards beyond the permit requirements.

MDEQ officials say the program results in a reduction of waste and conservation of resources.

They say those measures lead to long-term economic benefits.

The newest members of the eHance program in north Mississippi include Anel Corporation of Winona, American Eurocopter of Columbus, Tupelo Sleeper (Leggett and Platt) in Tupelo, Southwire in Starkville and Haworth in Bruce.

The renewing members in north Mississippi include Associates Quantum Choctaw Power, LLC and Choctaw Generation, LP - Red Hills Power Plant, both located in Ackerman.

The enHance members will be recognized at a luncheon and training seminar in Jackson on April 10.
