COLUMBUS, Miss. (WTVA) -- Columbus City Council held a special meeting Thursday morning to discuss future plans for a soccer complex.

In the meeting, officials approved to apply for a grant with the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks (MDWFP) that will fund a new playground at the Columbus Soccer Complex.

Mayor Robert Smith says up to $200,000 is available with the MDWFP grant.

The county and city agreed to put in $100,000 toward the funds.
