OXFORD, Miss. (WTVA) -- A Columbus man has been indicted by a federal grand jury for trying to attract a child for sex.

Carlos Malone, 29, was arrested by Tupelo police in May as part of an ongoing investigation.

The federal indictment accuses Malone of using the internet and cellphone communications to arrange to meet a 15-year-old for sexual purposes.

A detention hearing is scheduled Thursday in Oxford.

Malone was the 15th person arrested by Tupelo police in 2013 as part of the investigation.

Authorities say Malone was on probation for child abuse at the time of his arrest.
