COLUMBUS, Miss. (WTVA) -- The City of Columbus Civil Service Commission is looking at making an amendment to a residency requirement for police officers in the city.
Currently, officers are given one year to locate in Lowndes County from the date of their hiring.
The policy is in place to make sure off-duty officers are able to respond quickly in the case of a call-out.
The commission is considering a proposal to amend the policy and provide a "Good Cause" exception.
The amendment lists several reasons someone could get an exemption from the residency requirement.
