Artesia selects Atmos Energy for natural gas service

ARTESIA, Miss. (WTVA) -- Residents who get natural gas service from the town of Artesia will soon say their bills go down.

Public Service Commissioner Brandon Presley announced Monday he signed an order approving the sale and transfer of the town's system to Atmos Energy.

Presley says the sale will result in a 49 percent reduction in natural gas rates for residential customers.

He says the average bill go from $35.65 monthly to $18.16 per month.

Commercial customers will see their bills drop from $111.15 to $46.58.

Atmos Energy was expected to begin testing and operational procedures Monday.

 The Artesia natural gas system has sixty customers.
