Air ambulance damaged during hard landing

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WTVA) — The Federal Aviation Administration will investigate a hard landing made by the pilot of a MedStat EMS helicopter in Madison County Thursday night.

Federal officials say the incident happened around 11:15 p.m.

The air ambulance was transporting a patient from Columbus to a Jackson hospital when the pilot experienced a problem and made the landing in a field.

The helicopter, a Eurocopter AS350, sustained substational damage according to federal authorities.

The flight crew and the patient did not suffers injuries because of the landing.

A second MedStat helicopter stationed in Winona was dispatched to take the patient on the Jackson.
