TUPELO, Miss. (WTVA) -- Work is underway to repair a section of old runway at the Tupelo Regional Airport.
Executive Director Josh Abramson tells WTVA.com the work began Wednesday morning to patch a 200 by 50 foot section of the old runway.
The TRA Authority Board declared a portion of the runway was in urgent need of repair during a meeting last week.
The Tupelo City Council agreed to put up nearly $107,000 to make the repairs.
The declaration of the urgent need allowed airport officials to bypass the bidding process to have the work done.
The old runway serves three business who lease property from the airport, including Universal Asset Management.
