TUPELO, Miss. (WTVA) -- This year's "Women in Red" luncheon in Tupelo featured a doctor from North Mississippi Medical Center.
It was held at First Baptist Church and focused on the early recognition and warning signs of life threatening illnesses.
Dr. Barry Bertolet, an interventional cardiologist, talked about the importance of calling 911 if anyone is experiencing symptons of a heart attack or stroke.
He says when people don't call 911, that can delay making an appropiate diagnosis for treating a heart attack or other life threatening illness.
"If you call an ambulance that means you're going to see a doctor 15 minutes sooner. If you're having a heart attack that means you're going to have the appropiate therapy about 40 minutes sooner," he said.
Attendees were able to receive free blood pressure screenings before and after the luncheon, and gained information about cholestorol, triglycerides and fasting glucose.
