TUPELO, Miss. (WTVA) -- The man known to many in Tupelo as "Mr. Civitan", Charlie Mullinix, has died.
Luncheon Civitan Club President Russ Wilson tells WTVA.com Mullinix died Wednesday night at the age of 92.
Mullinix served with the 66th U. S. Naval Battalion during World War II.
Wilson says Mullinix went to work for Gravlee Lumber Company in Tupelo after he returned from the war and worked their until he retired.
Mullinix joined the Tupelo Luncheon Civitan Club in November of 1953 and remained an active member until he suffered a stroke recently.
Wilson says Mullinix brought over 250 new members to the club.
He says Mullinix took pride in the fact the Tupelo club is the largest civitan club in the world.
Wilson says Mullinix was also involved in Little League baseball and was a requested speaker because of his home-spun humor.
