TUPELO, Miss. (WTVA) -- Starting Monday, the city of Tupelo's Public Works Department began making preparations in anticipation of freezing weather and icing on bridges.
If the temperature drops to or below freezing, it can make driving on roads and highways more dangerous.
The city has vehicles that put out crushed stone along with standby personnel in the event conditions call for crews to address hazardous road conditions.
"I don't anticipate any major problems, but there may be some minor icing on bridges later tonight," said Sid Russell, director of public works, "when traffic does slow down and it does cool off a little more, but other than that were just going to be sitting on ready."
Driving at night with or close to freezing temperatures can be potentially dangerous.
