CHARLESTON, S.C. (WTVA) -- The Tupelo Police Department has been recognized nationally with honors at an awards banquet Saturday night.
Police Chief Tony Carleton said the department received statewide and national accreditation at the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA) awards banquet.
"I'm excited and delighted to report to the citizens of Tupelo that the Tupelo Police Department has achieved Mississippi State Accreditation from the Department of Public Safety," Carleton said. "We are [also] recognized nationally by CALEA. We have been working diligently for the past two years to achieve this accreditation."
The department underwent a three-day assessment process in November 2012. Residents of Tupelo were also asked to offer their comments about the department last year as part of the evaluation.
