TUPELO, Miss. (WTVA) -- A baby giraffe, born Friday at the Tupelo Buffalo Park, has died.

Park officials say the giraffe died Wednesday morning at the Mississippi State College of Veterinary Medicine in Starkville.

Officials say the giraffe was noticeably weak Monday and didn't appear to be nursing.

Local veterinarians gave the animal fluids and milk supplements, but the decision was made to transfer the animal to MSU.

The calf did appear to be responding to treatment, but complications developed Tuesday evening.

The giraffe was the seventh calf born to the park's reticulated giraffe pair, Tall Boy and Patches.
