TUPELO, Miss. (WTVA) - Sofia Falcon of Ripley is a client at the Regional Rehabilitation Center in Tupelo.

Her parents have spent many days meeting with doctors because Sofia was born with a genetic disorder.

Sofia's father, Gustabo Falcon, said, "Whenever she was born she had many problems. She had a hernia. She lost one of her fingers."

Sofia's parents brought her to the Regional Rehab Center after she wasn't doing activities typical of a child her age.

Gretchen Brown with the Rehab Center said, "From the beginning, Sofia has surprised us just about every week. She started out just wanting to use her left hand. But every week she's bringing in her right hand and incorporating that into her activities."

With each passing week, therapists chart her improvements.

Not only are the experts helping Sofia, but they tell us a lot of her success has to do with support from her home.

Brandy Evans with the Rehab Center said, "Mom and dad have been very proactive in finding ways to fill Sofia's needs whether it be with doctors, therapy or anything. She has such a good support system and home and that makes the difference."

Falcon said, "Without this help, she might not be crawling or anything or move good like she does now."

Sofia's parents say they'll continue to search for ways to help with their daughter's quality of life.

The folks at the Regional Rehab Center say they'll also be here along the way to see this little one through.
