TUPELO, Miss. (WTVA) - Students in grades seven through 12 with the Tupelo Public School District were honored Monday for their work in the classroom.

This years Rotary Scholars Recognition Program featured eight seniors who have earned six-year scholar status.

A record 205 students we're honored for their academic achievements.

Each year the Rotary Club of Tupelo recognizes students who represent the finest academic performers in the school district.

For many of the students, they maintained a 4.0 GPA throughout high school and junior high.

They say it was well worth the time spent.

"You know it's just a lot of late nights and hard tests," adds Ashley Williams, senior at Tupelo High School. "A lot of stress and it's just so nice to know you are being rewarded and have it all pay off in the end it's such a great honor."

"I always had the goal to actually get the plaque but I can't say I really worked hard," added Brigid McCool, senior at Tupelo High School. "I know there's a lot of people who did but I just kind of did what I did best was be smart and make A's."

Any student who has been recognized as a Rotary Scholar during the period he or she is eligible receives a special award their senior year.

Congratulations to all of the 205 students.
