OXFORD, Miss. (WTVA) -- A Saltillo man has pleaded guilty to federal charges of misuse of public money.

Paul Griffith, 65, of Saltillo entered the guilty plea in U. S. District Court last week.

Griffith was accused by federal authorities of lying to the Social Security Administration about his step-daughter living with him half the time and providing at least 50 percent of money for her care.

The statements were made on an application for Social Security Title II Child's Insurance Benefits payments.

Authorities say Griffith received $29,348.

He will be sentenced at a later date.
