TUPELO, Miss. (WTVA) -- A Mooreville man has been charged with sexual battery after having inappropriate contact with a 15-year-old student at the school where he worked as a substitute teacher.
Matthew Blake Whitt, 24, waived a probable cause hearing scheduled for Wednesday morning in Lee County Circuit Court.
He was taken into custody by the Lee County sheriff's deputies on two counts of sexual battery of a student.
Sheriff Jim Johnson says the parents of the student notified his office and the case will be presented to a grand jury in March.
He says more charges may be added as the investigation continues.
Whitt has been ordered not to go within 500 yards of a Lee County school and make no contact with the student.
A justice court judge set bond at $15,000.
