TUPELO, Miss. (WTVA) -- Monday morning, Tupelo's fire chief and new mayor were able to show off a shiny new fire truck to the city at fire Station Number Seven on Mccullough Boulevard.
The new truck will be used on the west side of town.
The final price tag for the new truck is right at $495,000.
"State of the art truck. Its got a 750 gallon tank on it so it carries 750 gallons of water. Its got a foam cell on it. We can use foam with our firefighting techniques now. It knocks the fire down quicker- smothers it. It puts down less rekindle. We're just tickled to death to have this piece of equipment," said Tupelo Fire Chief Thomas Walker.
"The new fire engine helps to keep our fire rating where it should be. It helps keep our home insurance rates low for our citizens," replied Tupelo Mayor Jason Shelton.
According to Chief Walker, Tupelo presently carries a number four rating.
The highest rating possible is a one.
Jackson and Southaven have the highest ratings in Mississippi with a two.
