TUPELO, Miss. (WTVA) -- A new look is in store for Tupelo Aviation Unlimited's interior.
Tupelo Regional Airport Executive Director Josh Abramson said the Mississippi Department of Transportation has awarded a $300,000 grant to make improvements to the facility.
The money will be combined with $200,000 borrowed at a low interest rate through the Mississippi Development Authority.
Improvements will be made in the lobby, kitchen and bathrooms.
Abramson said the renovation is needed to keep customers coming back as well as to recruit new business.
He would like to see a private charter company as well as a flight school come on board.
"Those are two big options that I think would really benefit this airport and this community well to have it and having some new, updated facilities to help recruit those companies is what we need," Abramson said.
Abramson said Tupelo Aviation Unlimited handles all aspects of aviation excluding commercial flights.
He said it continues to show a profit from sales of fuel to private pilots, the military and commercial airlines.
