SALTILLO, Miss. (WTVA) -- Don Knight is well known in Saltillo.
Several years ago his popular restaurant burned.
"After the restaurant burned, we decided we wouldn't do anything about it," Knight said.
He didn't stick with that plan for long.
Now, he's wrapping up a building project to house a local dance studio.
"Any time that your people see that you are building, someone who may just be thinking about it may take the initiative to do something to go further. My philosophy in life is that you have to spend money to make money," Knight added.
There may be something to that philosophy if you ask Saltillo Building and Zoning Administrator Brian Grissom.
He says there are four projects under construction and four in the process of getting site plans put together.
"It's been quite a number of years since we've seen this much commercial activity in our area. So, we're very happy to see this much construction," Grissom said.
"We need a good sales tax base in Saltillo. That is a problem that we have. We're looking forward to any new businesses we can get to increase that sales tax base. We're gonna go out and go after those businesses. Just to see it picking up is wonderful," Mayor Rex Smith said.
