NETTLETON, Miss. (WTVA) — A 2.5 acre of land is finally on its way to becoming a children's park.

Doris Causey has been hoping for construction to start on the park for about four years after she donated the land.

"I can't wait," Causey said. "It's prayers answered."

Causey lived on the land with her family for more than four decades.

"When I moved away from down there, it just kept going in my mind," Causey said. "I said 'Well that would make a wonderful children's park.'"

The progress of the children's park has been put on hold for a couple years because of a lack of funding.

"It has slowly, slowly been in the process, but Mayor Taylor has come in here and gotten right on the ball with it," Causey said.

Causey has been working with city leaders to get grants to help build the park. She has also gotten some help from her neighbors.

"The community itself is very supportive of it," Mayor Jimmy Taylor said. "It has just been awfully difficult to actually get anything started."

The lot is being bulldozed this week and it will take about two weeks to be finished.

All that is needed to complete the park is money for playground equipment.

"If somebody came in with a large donation, that would just speed things up tremendously. But, we are going to keep plugging along and get what we can as we can," Taylor said.

Mayor Taylor says this park would be an asset to families in Nettleton.

"I think they want to have a place for their kids to play and be able to play safely."

Causey says she will go to the park everyday once it is finished.
