TUPELO, Miss. (WTVA) -- A new deputy police chief has been named for the city of Tupelo while an outgoing city department head has left her job earlier than expected.

Allan Gilbert was chosen by Chief Bart Aguirre for a leadership position with the city's law enforcement agency.

Gilbert may be best known by the public for his role as the coordinator for Crime Stoppers of Northeast Mississippi.

He'll begin his new duties on Friday.

Meanwhile, B.J. Teal is walking away from her job earlier than expected.

Mayor Jason Shelton says the head of development services spent a few hours at City Hall Tuesday but is using her leave time until her resignation takes effect.

It was reported Teal's final day on the job would be November 18.

Shelton says he's selected city planner Pat Falkner to serve as the interim head of the department.

That selection will be brought before the City Council for approval.
