TUPELO, Miss. (WTVA) -- The first fundraiser to be held by the Community Recovery Team is being called the $5 a Week Club.

That's what it takes to become a member of this club to be launched Friday.

Money raised will go to assist those with tornado damage in Tupelo, Lee and Itawamba Counties.

Chairman Jack Reed, Jr. says anyone who wishes to donate $5 a week can do so in a variety of ways through the CREATE Foundation.

The fundraiser will be conducted for a year.

Reed says the money will help to assist those who are uninsured or underinsured in Lee and Itawamba Counties.

The team is hoping for at least 1,000 people to participate.

"That would get us $260,000 which would be a meaningful amount of money we could then use to help these people get back on their feet and get across the finish line," said Reed.

The number to call for assistance or to sign up is (662) 432-1600.

Wait until at least Friday afternoon, August 8 before making that call.

A website will also be set up for information and to post pictures of those who become members of the club.

We'll have more information on that website coming soon.
