TUPELO, Miss. (WTVA) -- Every year, the CREATE Foundation honors people for their giving to the community, and the Tupelo-based organization did so again Thursday night.
Aubrey and Ruby Kathryn Patterson of Tupelo are this year's winners of the McLean Award for Philanthropy.
"We stand on the shoulders of giants," said Aubrey Patterson, the chairman and CEO of BancorpSouth. "We're continuing a legacy of community spirit and caring for others that have been the hallmark of Northeast Mississippi."
The husband and wife received the honor at the BancorpSouth Conference Center during the foundation's fall summit.
The award is named in honor of late newspaper publisher George McLean, who is credited with helping the Tupelo area progress to where it is today.
