VERNON, Ala. (WTVA) — Unofficial results show Hal Allred has won the race to become the next sheriff of Lamar County, Alabama.

Allred defeated Marty Gottwald 59 percent to 41 percent in the Democratic primary runoff.

He takes the job since there is no opposition in the November general election.

Allred, who's from Sulligent, is a 17-year veteran of the sheriff's department.

In one other Democratic runoff, Fred Moore defeated Johnny Allen 54 percent to 46 percent in the District 1 County Commission race.
