LAMAR COUNTY, Ala. (WTVA) -- Friday marked the beginning of Alabama's annual sales tax holiday weekend.
State officials are encouraging Alabamians to go out and shop for back-to-school items with no state sales tax.
That small amount of savings acts as both an incentive for shoppers to go out and shop and give businesses more revenue.
When Janice McGee, owner of Sassy Chic boutique in downtown Vernon, was asked if she thinks the sales tax holiday will bring in business, she remained optimistic.
"I hope so. It's been a busy day with it tax-free," McGee said. "I had quite a few in [Friday]."
She said she thinks that the tax-free weekend is good for the shopper and gives people a sense of advantage when it comes to purchasing clothes.
"It seems like the tax-free [offer] is like a bonus for them, especially the customers. They feel like they get a little something free," said McGee.
