Alabama distributes grants to help homeless

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WTVA) -- The U. S. Department of Housing and Urban development has provided funding to help the homeless in Alabama.

Governor Robert Bentley says the state is receiving $1.8 million.

The funding will be divided among 13 agencies across the state to provide shelter, legal and health services and financial consulting.

The money is being distributed by the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs.

The Alabama Rural Coalition for the Homeless is receiving $180,000 to assist in 43 counties, including Fayette, Lamar and Pickens.

Safeplace, Inc. will received $180,000 to assist in six counties, including Franklin and Marion County.
