OXFORD, Miss. (WTVA) — It didn't take long to figure out that there was something very different and interesting going on in Oxford on Saturday.
On the Square, there were the familiar Ole Miss supporters, but there were some different colors in town too.
"Hook 'em horns" was the cry as Texas football supporters seemed to be everywhere and ready for a party Ole Miss style.
"It's a great town. People here are incredibly cordial," said Jason Sacher of Dallas, Texas, who was visiting a friend in Oxford.
"The people here are incredibly cordial. We've had nothing but positive experiences all day yesterday and today," he continued.
"It's a quaint town, but it's exciting. Lots of excitement for the game," said Tricia Davison, also of Dallas.
"People have been great hosts, and we want to thank them. I know who I'll root for, but I still want to respect the people that had us. So thanks for having us," said another Texas fan on the Square.
Fans of both teams could also be found in the Grove.
There were reports from officials of people passing out from the heat as well as a skirmish or two.
Overall, however, they added the atmosphere was extremely pleasant for an afternoon of college football and celebrations.
"I think it's wonderful. I haven't seen a crowd this big in 47 years," said Pequita Deberry of Oxford.
One official estimated the on-campus crowd to be as high as 100,000.
