OXFORD, Miss. (WTVA) — It wasn't the typical tailgating like you would see during the fall football season, but you could find some Ole Miss fans tailgating prior to the start of Saturday's Grove Bowl.
Among them was Charles Coleman of Olive Branch, a season ticketholder since 1956.
"My family and this other bunch have been tailgating for nearly 40 years," said Coleman.
Joining him were his two grown daughters, who followed their father's footsteps when it comes to supporting the Rebels.
"We said, 'Hoddy Toddy' before we said, 'Mom and Dad,'" said daughter Kim Coleman.
The Colemans and their friends are not the type of fans who show up just for tailgating.
"We want to see how they look today, how they look together," said daughter Kay Bollino, referring to the football team.
There's optimism among Ole Miss fans about the upcoming football season, especially after the team's bowl appearance last season.
"I don't want to get our expectations too high," said Winston Laughter of Olive Branch. "Maybe 7-5, maybe 8-4 if we can have everything fall together depending upon our injuries."
"I think we're going to do great with Hugh Freeze," said Shirley Ivey of Oxford, talking about the university's head football coach. "I mean, he's changed our program. And I think we're going to maybe go like 8-3 or maybe 8-4."
