OXFORD, Miss. (WTVA) -- Finding a parking space in downtown Oxford is quite a challenge.

That's why the city is working to help alleviate the parking dilemma.

A new parking lot is under construction between Lamar and Jefferson Streets, and it will feature 100 spaces.

The lot sits on nine-tenths of an acre that the city recently purchased.

Construction is expected to be completed before Ole Miss starts classes in August.

"The biggest issue we have with parking downtown Oxford is we have approximately 650 employees. Obviously, employees [take] most of the downtown parking. The additional 100 spaces we hope will alleviate some of those concerns and some of those pains," explained City Engineer Bart Robinson.

The lot is also being considered as a possible site for a future parking garage.
