OXFORD, Miss. (WTVA) — Thanks to six inches of rainfall, people who drive on Bickerstaff Road in Oxford will experience a slight inconvenience.
The rain Sunday night and Monday morning caused a sewer line to collapse in an area where Bickerstaff Road changes into Frontage Road.
City crews believe a surge on the sewer line from infiltration caused the top of the pipe to collapse.
"We started working Monday to find out what the problem was," adds Bart Robinson, city engineer. "[We] started quickly as we could [to] get materials by Tuesday trying to replace it."
The road is expected to partially reopen sometime within a week or ten days.
As far as a complete repair, it will be at least three weeks.
