JACKSON, Miss. (WTVA) -- The Mississippi Department of Transportation has awarded two bids for work on sections of Highway 6/76/276 in Pontotoc and Lafayette County.

MDOT awarded a bid of $5.5 million to Talbot Construction of Nesbit to make improvements to the intersection at Highway 6 and Jackson Avenue in Oxford.

The winning bid was 14 percent over estimates.

Work includes widening sections of the highway and improving traffic flow through the intersection.

The project is expected to be completed by August of 2015.

MDOT also awarded APAC a $5.62 million contact to reconstruct Highway 6/76/278 from the Lafayette County line to Old Highway 6 in Pontotoc County.

Officials say the bid was 4 percent below estimates.

The work is expected to be completed the first part of November.
