OXFORD, Miss. (WTVA) -- Police in Oxford received a call Monday from the manager of an apartment complex about a cat that had been shot with a bow and arrow.
When police and animal control officers arrived, they found the cat dead with the arrow still lodged in its skull.
"The cat had been deceased for some time, so we basically recovered the arrow. That is all that we have. We really don't have anything to go on. We hope that someone saw something that could provide us the information to bring whoever did this to justice," said Chief Mike Martin.
If the shooter is caught, the penalty for such an act wouldn't be light.
"The killing or maiming of an animal is a felony charge, so a person who is convicted of this could face imprisonment or fines as well," said Martin.
An animal control officer said the arrow found in the cat was tested for fingerprints.
He added that since you can buy arrows without serial numbers, it'll take a witness or a confession to solve the case.
If anyone has any information dealing with this case, Oxford Police asks you to call Crime Stoppers at 662-234-8477.
