OXFORD, Miss. (WTVA) -- A locally grown restaurant chain has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. The filing affects the two Abner's Famous Chicken Tenders restaurants in Oxford.
Abner's, Inc. filed the paperwork last month in U. S. Bankruptcy Court in the Northern District of Mississippi.
It listed assets and liablities between $1 million and $10 million in its filing.
Court document shows the company owes less than 20 creditors, who will be briefed further on the proceedings during a meeting next month in Oxford.
Former Ole Miss football player Abner White founded the company in 1993. It features a sports-themed atmosphere that includes photos from college and professional athletes with ties to Mississippi.
Abner's operates a total of six restaurants in Mississippi and Tennessee. Other locations are Tupelo, Starkville, Brandon and Cordova, Tennessee. Abner White tells WTVA that none of those retaurants are included in the bankruptcy filing.
