OXFORD, Miss. (WTVA) -- It appears football won't be the only spectator sport in Oxford this Saturday.

Some will be looking for stars at the Texas-Ole Miss game.

John Currence, the owner of City Grocery restaurant, is planning for a big crowd this weekend, but rumor has it it's one expensive private party.

Some say he was offered big money and turned it down.

"They're asking me if I actually am a big enough idiot that I'd turn down a quarter of a million dollars to close the restaurant or whether Mathew McConaughey is going to be here," Currence said.

We know the answer, but we are definitely in the minority.

"I've heard that Mathew McConaughey is gonna be here all weekend, and I also heard that he's rented out City Grocery the whole weekend," Kelly Buscher said.

"I've heard that Mathew McConaughey is coming," Quinn Trader said.

"I've heard everything that Mathew McConaughey is coming. I've heard that he's rented out City Grocery. I believe he's supposed to be on the football field," Vincent Anderson said.

"I've heard some old Texas governors are coming. It's gonna be $20,000 for two nights to stay here," Dan Ilges said.

A more intense search turns up the skeptics.

"I don't believe the restaurant was rented out, but I do feel like if they want to contribute to our growth here, we're gonna accept them with open arms," Murphy Turner said.

Accustomed to doing just that is Oxford Convention and Visitors Bureau Director Mary-Kathryn Herrington.

"I think there are a lot of rumors circulating around town right now, but most of them have been proved to be rumors," Herrington said.

Back at Currence's restaurant, he says some Texas alumni called him about holding a private party at the restaurant, but they did not agree on a price.

Just for the record, it was not even close to $250,000.
