ITAWAMBA COUNTY, Miss. (WTVA) -- Authorities say seven people including five children have been injured in a two-vehicle accident in Itawamba County that involved a car and a log truck.

According to the Mississippi Highway Patrol, the accident happened around 4:30 p.m. on Thursday on Highway 178 near the Mississippi/Alabama state line.

Trooper Ray Hall tells WTVA.com that a four-year-old has been airlifted to Le Bonheur Children's Hospital in Memphis and is in critical condition.

He says that child was ejected in the wreck.

Officials say a teenaged driver of the car was traveling east on Highway 178 and apparently tried to pass the log truck on the right side of the truck as the semi was attempting to make a right turn.

Authorities say the car collided with the tractor trailer and the car ran off the road and overturned several times.

Trooper Hall says two teenagers and four children were taken to North Mississippi Medical Center.

He says none of their injuries are life threatening.

Officials say the driver of the log truck was not injured.
