FULTON, Miss. (WTVA) -- The generous donation of the Fulton Playground Park sponsored by the Waldorf family, started a positive domino effect throughout the Downtown Fulton area, all thanks to a group of volunteers.
"We began to look at other buildings around the courthouse [and] different buisnesses downtown, and they wanted to improve and reflect what the park looks like. It's so beautifully maintained and eveyone just thought ok, now we need to up our game," said volunteer Lynn Blaylock.
Since the birth of the group in 2011, the mission of the "Fulton Community Volunteers" has been to make positive changeS in their community.
"We do trash pick up, we do clean up, we've worked at the Courthouse... We've gone in the allies and cleaned out allies... and we are happy to say that we see new businesses coming to Downtown Fulton," said Blaylock.
Joel Ewing, another member of the volunteer group, says he first heard about the group's efforts a couple of years ago and it peaked his interest.
"It's really turned out to be something more than I imagined because not only am I seeing our community develop and get better but I've also made a lot of friends and I've meet some of my neighbors that I didn't know," said Ewing.
The volunteers say it's a joint effort between the City of Fulton, area schools, churches, and civic groups that continue to make their community a better place.
"Everybody has their own talents. Everybody has their own interestS. So that is why this group works so well together because everybody does a little bit and it makes a huge impact," said Blaylock.
Because of the positive impact they've made on their community, the "Fulton Community Volunteers" are this week's Positively Mississippi.
