GOLDEN, Miss. (WTVA) -- When your water meter is read, you'll be the first to know.
Members of the Northeast Itawamba Water Association have come up with a strategy to make sure their customers know when their water meter is read.
Door hangers will be placed on door knobs when meters are read beginning with the August billing cycle.
That will continue for at least two months.
This move comes after many of their customers received an unusually large water bill recently.
Northern District Public Service Commissioner Brandon Presley says he is pleased with the action of the board.
"That's why I think it's important to have these proactive steps hanging a door hanger on the door, letting customers know when their meter is read, who read it and what the meter reading was."
The board has also decided to allow current customers without a past due balance to receive a one-time-only adjustment to their bill.
They will average the last 12 months to come up with a figure.
In addition, they have decided to not allow a billing cycle to exceed 30 days.
