(WTVA) — Tuesday's municipal primaries have produced a new mayor for West Point.

Unofficial results show former Clay County Chancery Court Clerk Robbie Robinson defeated Darlene Cox in the Democratic primary to take the top job in city government.

No Republicans or independents qualified for the race to force a showdown in the June 4 general election.

Robinson will take over for Scott Ross, who qualified to run for reelection but withdrew.

In New Albany, voters chose a detective to take over as the city's police chief.

Chris Robertson defeated fellow officer and Union County Coroner Mark Golding in the Democratic primary to replace the retiring David Grisham.

There's no general election opposition awaiting Robertson.

Some incumbent mayors went down to defeat in the primary.  One of them was Fulton Mayor Paul Walker, who lost to fellow Democrat Lynette Weatherford.

She'll face independent Alan Hisaw and Libertarian Joshua Wood in next month's general election.
