JACKSON, Miss. (WTVA) -- The Mississippi Court of Appeals has upheld the conviction of a man charged with sexual battery in Itawamba County.

Robert Dickens, 28, pleaded guilty to the charge in June of 2008 and was sentenced to 15 years in prison and five years probation.

The charges stemmed from a grand jury indictment handed down in 2007.

In 2012, Dickens filed a motion for post-conviction relief and asked the judge to throw out the guilty plea and sentence.

The judge denied the request because too much time had passed from the time of his guilty plea.

He then appealed the decision to the Mississippi Court of Appeals, who upheld the judge's decision on Tuesday.
