MDEQ grants target hazardous waste, illegal dump sites

JACKSON, Miss. (WTVA) -- The Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality has awarded grants to some area agencies to help with disposal of hazardous household waste and illegal dumpsite enforcement.

The state agency will provide Three Rivers Solid Waste Management Authority $60,000 for waste collection events during 2014.

Three Rivers serves Calhoun, Itawamba, Lafayette, Lee, Monroe, Pontotoc, and Union Counties.

Calhoun County will receive $11,280 and Itawamba County will receive $15,240 to help with enforcement and cleanup of illegal dumpsites.

MDEQ announced the grant awards on Monday.
