FULTON, Miss. (WTVA) -- An animal shelter would be a first for Itawamba County.

Fulton Veterinarian Dr. Doug Thrash is one of a number of locals hoping to raise money for a shelter.

Dr. Thrash says many residents take in stray animals, but there are just too many to find homes for on a regular basis.

The plan calls for a building that would costs an estimated $150,000.

Fund raising efforts will begin on Halloween night in the square in Fulton.

"There's not as many as what there used to be, but we still have a lot out there that need our help," Dr. Thrash said.

Dr. Thrash says they do have a site selected for the shelter.

Obviously, they have a lot of money to raise for what will be a nonprofit organization.

We will continue to update this story as this project progresses.
