Last-second free throws lift ICC to Region 23 title

CLINTON, Miss. (WTVA/ICC Athletics) - Freshman point guard Leslie Robinson (Belmont) hit a pair of free throws with 0.5 seconds left in the game to help the Itawamba Community College Lady Indians (19-9) earn their first National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region 23 championship since 1975 with a 58-57 victory over Baton Rouge Community College at Mississippi College on Saturday.

Baton Rouge (22-9) took a 57-54 lead before freshman Tia Coleman nailed a deep three inside a minute left in the game to set up Robinson's late game heroics.

Sophomore Jasmine Hampton (Bruce) capped off a stellar week with a double-double performance scoring 11 points and grabbing 11 rebounds while fellow sophomore Ayanna Lynn (Indianola) also had a double-double scoring 11 points and dishing out 11 assists. Coleman also scored 11 while Robinson finished the game with seven points.

Taliah Robertson and Ashley Williams led Baton Rouge with 12 points each.

Lynn and sophomore guard Ty-Nita Baker (Houston) were named to the NJCAA All-Region 23 Tournament team.

ICC will participate in the NJCAA National Tournament in Salina, Kansas in two weeks with opponent and dates to be determined.
